Can you reverse heat damage?

@ShaniSEYso asked, “Sooo I want my curls back. The front is all straight. Can you reverse heat damage?”

This is a really good question, because I’m sure you all have seen products that promise to bounce your curls back after a bad flat iron or blow dry. Is it really possible to reverse heat damage though? Well, yes and no.

All heat damage isn’t the same. Some damage is more severe than others and it won’t be until you try to get your curls back until you see how bad it is, or isn’t. If you try to get your curls back after a good shampoo and condition, and they won’t budge, it’s probably because the damage is too severe. So, it would be best to say bye to those straight ends.

Here are a few tips to try to revive your curls:

1. Find a really thick conditioner and let it sit on your hair for a few hours, with a plastic cap.

2. Use a protein treatment on your hair.

3. Relax under a steamer or in the shower, and allow the steam to work its magic.

Ways to blend your straight strands and curls:

1. Roll your ends with curling rods!

2. Experiment with a braid out or twist out!

3. Get a protective style, such as box braids or faux locs!

If all else fails, start from scratch and get a good trim. Remember it’s just hair and it will eventually grow back! Just go easy on the heat. Remember to use a heat protectant generously on your hair (especially the ends).
